NPR Doesn’t Wait-Wait to Retell Historical Books on Twitter
As overheard on the popular NPR Saturday radio show Wait Wait, Don’t Tell Me!
The April 4, 2009 show featured Paula Poundstone, Tom Bodett, and Mo Rocca, who talked about historically important novels translated to Twitter-ese:
The Grapes of Wrath:
Times are hard. Sister breastfeeding homeless guy. I’m SO outta here.Pride and Prejudice:
I hate that guy. But actually, he’s kinda hot.Lolita:
(Message removed for violating terms of service.)
Hilarious stuff. Keep it up, NPR. Next time, do some of our Historical Tweets (and credit us)!!

The Grapes of Wrath almost reads like a Haiku.

I’m going to tweet Genghis Khan’s life story in a period of thirty years, in real time. But with references to the modern day.
Check it out:

I’ve started doing this as Lit Twit for my school library (I’m a high school librarian in Kentucky). Yes- if you think haiku it is easier to write them. I just do short promos for books although I call them reviews.
